Scottish Records for Toni

Congratulations to Toni on setting 3 new Scottish Records for Longbow!

This year saw our President Toni Smillie back out in the competition circuit for the first time in 14 years!

Clearly she has not lost her touch and set new Scottish Records for 50m and 70m at the WRS 1440 round run by Balbardie Archers on 26 July 2015, and not content with that she also set a new Scottish Record at the Double WRS 1440 round run by Penicuick Archers on 06 Sept 2015.

A fantastic result, well done Toni!

Lilleshall National Mid Summer Event 2015

Congratulations to Phyllis!

This Summer Phyllis was selected to shoot for the East of Scotland Ladies Recurve Team to compete in The National County Team Championships which were held in Lilleshall National Sports and Conferencing Centre which is also where Archery GB Headquarters is located, Nr Telford.  It was quite an experience as you can see by the number of Targets, 70 in total! These targets were just the Recurve Targets, there was another line the same for Combound and a few in the middle for Long Bows! What a sight!

Lilleshall Recurve Targets

Last year the ladies recurve team finished in 16th position and it was their goal this year to make it to the top ten, which they did! They were in 9th position after day 1 but still managed to hang on to the 10th position by the end of day 2!

The East of Scotland Gents Recurve Team were the crowning glory, winning the Championships!

EA Gents Team

The Ladies Compound Team finished in 6th place, so overall a fantastic result for the Eastern Area of Scotland!

Penicuik Archers Penny Shoot

Over the weekend of 20th & 21st June Penicuik Archers held their annual Penny Shoot which consisted of two days of shooting.  This year the first day was a WA 70m round followed by H2H Rounds, the 70m round was a ranking round and all the archers were seeded for the H2H.  The second day was a WA 1440 round and the awards were given out on the results of the combined placings from both days.

Alan Martin and Patricia shot a single day on the Sunday, both shot well and Patricia was 3rd in the Ladies Recurve, quite an achievement considering the very windy conditions! Well done Patricia!

Phyllis & Nessa took part in the full weekend event with a great result - Phyllis was awarded the Silver medal and Nessa the Bronze along with two lovely prizes of engraved Crystal Glasses! Well done girls!

Falkirk Council Awards – Congratulations to Moira

Falkirk Council held their annual Sports & Arts awards ceremony on 19th March. Moira cert and medal

 Moira coach of year award

The awards also incorporated the Falkirk Sports Council, Sports Personality of the year awards for 2014.

Of the various categories for these awards Moira was nominated for Coach of the Year and Service to Sport – it was announced that due to the high levels of talent the awards committee had a difficult job deciding on an outright winner and therefore despite fierce competition from 12 other sports, Moira was declared joint winner of Sports Personality Coach of the Year 2014.  A fantastic achievement considering 2014 was a Commonwealth Games year and which Archery was excluded from!

Well done Moira, we’re all very proud of you!

UKRS Eastern Area Championships

On the 11th January, five of our keen archers braved the snow and wind to compete in the UKRS Eastern Area Championships in Lasswade. This was a Portsmouth competition - for those of you not familiar with indoor rounds yet, this is five dozen arrows shot at a 60cm target face, the same as the one most of us shoot at on a Wednesday night and at the same distance. For Alan Bothwell, this was his first novice full Portsmouth competition which has set the trend for him entering future competitions. The day proved to be one of a mixed bag with some good scores and some others that we won't mention. Kay Smith had some success picking up the ladies D classification medal, for the highest score for archers in a classification banding, well done Kay! The next competition is the WRS SAA Championships at Lasswade, here's hoping for good shooting.
