SAA Junior, U21 and Senior Novice Championships
Congratulations to Martin Strang who won the Gents Recurve Silver Medal at SAA Junior, U21 and Senior Novice Championships on 30 October 2016!
Well done Martin, a great result!
As it was Halloween we decided to celebrate by killing Harry the Giant Evil Hairy Spider!
3rd - 4th September 2016 Penicuik Double WA1440
A great result with Phyllis taking the Ladies Recurve Silver Medal and Nessa the Bronze, the reason everyone is in pink and not wearing club colours is because the shoot was raising funds for Breast Cancer and Brain Tumor Cancer, the organisers Penicuik Archers have been raising funds all year for these charities and their target was £1000, they smashed that to raise almost double £1900!
28th August 2016 Scottish U2, Junior, Novice and Disability Championship which was also open to all archers.
A great result for Patricia who won the Ladies Recurve Silver Medal for the Hereford round.
13th - 14th August 2016 Bannockburn WA1440 rounds.
On the Saturday congratulations go to Toni for winning the Ladies Longbow Gold Medal and also Phyllis for winning the Ladies Recurve Gold Medal with Nessa taking the Bronze.
On the Sunday again Toni won the Ladies Longbow Gold Medal, Nessa won the Ladies Recurve Silver Medal and Phyllis took the Bronze.
30th - 31st July 2016 Balbardie Double WA720 & WA1440
A fantastic result from Toni winning the Ladies Longbow Gold Medal on both days!
3rd July 2016 Glasgow Archers American Shoot.
This is a fun shoot that is run by Glasgow Archers every year and it's an Amercan round which is an imperial round shooting 21/2 doz arrows at 60yds, 50yds and 40yds.
They also do a Mini American round which is 21/2 doz arrows at 40yds, 30yds and 20yds and this is aimed at archers who have never shot in a competition before or have never shot further than 40 yds so is a great opportunity for people to try out a competition for the first time in a really relaxed environment!
Once again the EA had great success with the Ladies Compound Team winning the Gold Medal, the Gents Recurve Team missed out on the Bronze Medal by just 1 Point!! The Ladies Recurve Team finished in 14th Place!
A fantastic result all round when you consider we were up against all the English county teams where some of them had two+ teams entered for each discipline!
19th June 2016 - Pentangle Event
This is a competition between 4 areas - North of Scotland, East of Scotland, Durham and Cumbria - this year Toni, Patricia and Phyllis were selected to shoot for the East Area of Scotland, unfortunately there was a shortage of people this year to make up full teams for all the categories and so the Overall Pentangle Trophy went to Durham with the East Area Ladies Compound coming in 2nd and Ladies Recurve and Ladies Longbow coming in 3rd.
15th May 2016 - Clyde Arrows Double WA 720
Congratulations to Patricia who won the Ladies Recurve Bronze Medal.
14th - 15th May 2016 Penicuik Double WA1440
Great result with Toni winning the Ladies Longbow Gold Medal and Patricia coming in 2nd for the Ladies Recurve on the Saturday!
The summer season is nearly over and we are heading back indoors!
Our last Wednesday night outdoors will be 7th September and our 1st night indoors will be Wednesday 14 September with a later time of 7.30pm - 10.30pm. Club equipment will be moved from the cricket club to Woodlands Games Hall for the 14th September.
Our 1st Monday indoors will be Monday 19th September and the hours will be from 6.45pm to 9.00pm, please note that we require two senior members present before shooting can take place. We would like to encourage as many members as possible to come along on a Monday to make best use of this time.
Please note that club coaching will only be available on a Wednesday and no coaching will take place on a Monday.
The 24th European Archery Championship finals took place on 28th – 29th May. Teams from 44 countries competed at the event and for the top spots within the Old Market Square in the heart of Nottingham. The event was especially significant because it was used to award Olympic places for Rio 2016 for some of the countries and individual archers. You can read about the event and see the results here: http://euroarchery2016.org/news/7116.php; or go to World Archery website here: http://worldarchery.org/news/search?field_competitions_target_id=14530.
Or you can ask all about it our very own club members who went there for the recurve event and enjoyed an amazing archery showdown in historical City of Nottingham. See phots of Phyllis, Nessa, Pete and Maya huddled up the venue at the end of the day, and Pete and Maya being star struck by the 2008 Olympic gold medallist Viktor Ruban!
P.S. The people of Nottingham really do stretch out the Robin Hood connection and use the name and image everywhere. No really, everywhere! :)
Some of the GB Team members practising after the session was finished.
On 27 February 2016 the 2nd stage of the EA Junior & Novice Showdown took place in Armadale
Falkirk came out on top with Johnny Riddoch winning the Novice category.
Well done Johnny another fantastic result for Falkirk!
Falkirk's success continues!
Patricia Malone won the Ladies Recurve Single Portsmouth run by Bannockburn Bowmen.
On our 1st Saturday back, Falkirk ran the 1st leg of the EA Junior/Novice Showdown.
We had a great result with our very own Liz Seaman winning the Novice Bronze Medal.
Congratulations Liz, well done!
At the recent SAA AGM Phyllis was awarded a Highly Commended Award in the Volunteer of the year category.
She was nominated for the award due to the fact that despite only joining Scottish Archery 3 years ago, she has stepped in to fill many roles in our club and area including coaching organiser and treasurer here at Falkirk Co of Archers and treasurer and committee member for Scottish Archery Eastern Area. She has also completed a Level 1 coaching course and is a competitive archer.
